When you read this, you won't believe it, but I swear to you, it's true. I confirmed the story with an aunt and also with my parents................
When I stayed at my Uncle's in Seattle, he told us this story about how they use to catch whales back in the day. CATCH WHALES... WTF???? And how might you ask did they catch these humongous whales? Well, he said there would be about 20+ people who would take these small ass boats out to the sea during Whale season. One person, lets call him "whale catcher", would have a hook with a rope tied to it and at the end of the rope would be bundles of bamboo tied together. Well, when the whale would jump up in the air, the Whale Catcher would jump out of the boat simultaneously with the whale and hook on to the whale with the hook! He would stab him with the hook!! CAHRAZY!! You're probably thinkin, how is ONE stab of a hook gonna KILL a hella big ass whale.. Well, it doesn't kill him automatically. Apparently, the whale catcher is trained to jump up and get on the whale at the perfect spot so that when he stabs him, it weakens him and eventually it dies.. HELLA SAD. While the whale is slowly dying underwater, the whale catcher and his entourage use the bamboo as their marker to know where the whale is (since the bamboo floats). Once the whale is at its weakest, the whale catcher and his entourage of his 20+ people move it to the seashore..
When we heard my Uncle tell us this story, Jason and I were hella laughing, like "yeah right" laughing.. It sounded so unbelievable and so funny. But why would he lie right? According to my Uncle Carlos, no one ever died while catching a whale in Lila.
So, when we got to Canada, we told my aunt how Uncle Carlos told us how Lilanhons used to catch whales, and she confirmed it.. And to ADD to that, she said when she used to watch them catch whales and the whale was already dead, her and a bunch of kids would get on top of the whale and slide on it! LMAO!!! HELLA wierd!!!! Just the vision of it is hella funny!!!!! Once it actually got to the seashore, all the Lilanhons came to the ocean to divy up the Whale to cook for the family.
OH MUN... what a story.. it's like something you would see in a movie or cartoon! LOL... I will totally pass this story down to my kids. I already know, they won't believe me.
